A Screen Studio alternative for Windows

Screen Studio made a certain look popular: the camera glides to where you click, the cursor moves smoothly, the recording sits on a soft background. On Windows you cannot have the original. Its FAQ says there are no near-future plans for Windows. You can have the look.

Screen Studio and Windows

Screen Studio runs on macOS only; the FAQ on screen.studio says so plainly and adds that Windows support is not planned for the near future. It costs US$29 a month, or US$9 a month on the yearly plan (same page, checked 30 October 2026).

What makes the look

Take the effect apart and it is four things. Each one works in any editor:

  1. Zoom to the action

Most screens are far wider than the part that matters. Zoom to 1.5–2.5× around each click or form, hold, then zoom out before the next area. Ease in and out so it glides instead of jumping.

Limits: by hand that is two to four keyframes per zoom. A five-minute tutorial easily has thirty zooms.

  2. A calm cursor

The real cursor twitches, overshoots and is tiny on a 4K screen. Before recording, make it larger: Settings → Accessibility → Mouse pointer and touch, size 2–3. Move slower than you think you need to.

Limits: a larger system cursor helps, but it does not remove the jitter. Smoothing needs a tool that redraws it.

  3. A background with padding

Put the recording on a gradient or image, with some padding, rounded corners and a soft shadow. It frames the window and hides untidy screen edges.

Limits: needs an editor with layers.

  4. A clean screen

Close everything you don’t need, turn on Do not disturb, hide desktop icons, use a neutral wallpaper. The effect cannot fix a cluttered screen.

Limits: none – this one is free.

What Screen Studio does that Glidewright doesn’t

Be clear about the gap. According to screen.studio, Screen Studio has share links that play in the browser, a cloud transcript and cutting by editing the transcript. Glidewright has none of these. It exports files; sharing them is up to you. Automatic captions are planned for Glidewright 1.1.

What Glidewright does the same way

  • Zoom suggestions from clicks and typing, merged for quick click sequences, adjustable on a zoom track.
  • A redrawn, larger and smoothed cursor with a click ring or pulse.
  • Backgrounds as gradient or image, padding, corner radius, shadow; the webcam as a circle or rounded rectangle that shrinks while zoomed in.
  • Portrait 9:16 and square: the crop follows the cursor automatically.
  • Everything local. No account.

The price model is the big difference: Glidewright costs €79 once, Screen Studio is a subscription. The comparison has the sources.

Where Glidewright comes in

The look, on Windows

Glidewright remembers where you click and type while you record. In the editor it turns that into smooth zoom moves, redraws the cursor larger and steadier, and puts the video on a clean background. You look it over, adjust, export – with your graphics card’s encoder (NVIDIA, AMD, Intel).

Windows 11 (22H2 or later). Recordings and projects stay in your Videos folder.

15-day free trial, then €79 once. No subscription, all 1.x updates included.
